Astrocyte Pharmaceuticals Completes $2.4M Seed Financing Round

Cambridge, MA, July 17, 2017 – Astrocyte Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced today that it has completed its seed financing round raising over $2.4M.  The company is developing novel small molecule drugs that limit neuronal damage in patients that have suffered a stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion.

As previously announced, the seed financing round was led by Boston Harbor Angels, and joined by the University of Texas Horizon Fund, SideCar Angels and others.  Joining in the subsequent closing were the Mass Medical Angels, Zhi Gao Holding Ltd., Nest.Bio Ventures and additional investors.

“We believe Astrocyte’s drug candidate has the potential to revolutionize the care of patients with strokes and other brain injuries, for which there are currently so few good options. We are very excited to participate in the Seed Financing round to help move this closer to the clinic” said Richard Anders, Executive Director of the Mass Medical Angels.

“The oversubscription and expansion of our seed financing round further validates the great science being conducted by Astrocyte, and the potential for our lead drug candidate to have a profound medical impact,” said Dr. William Korinek, CEO at Astrocyte Pharmaceuticals.  “The seed funding complements NIH and DOD grants to study our drug, and enables Astrocyte to advance AST-004 into large animal preclinical studies and toward human clinical studies.”
